So Old, Still Lovers

So Old, Still Lovers

They didn’t tell their son that they had to go to the PLN head office to settle about the electricity counter as they wouldn’t burden him with such an unagreeble task.

They went together with a taxi. His wife would do the talking and opa Johan accompanied her. Then they were sent to Pulo Gadung for inspection of the counter, a far way off. They had to wait a long time and it was soon noon time. They went to a small eating corner for the PLN workers, eating together a very simple meal, as happy as when they were young. Then return to the head office till the matter was settled. They again took a taxi home, very proud to have accomplished it themselves.

Another time, or was it fortunate that their son was hindered to ride them to the church? They walked together, crossed the bustling cross road, walked beside the muddy, dark road on their way to exercize with their choir. And they were and she was proud she did it, despite her hurting leg.

Though old as they are, though so tiring, so tedious, dangerous, they’re still lovers, that makes doing it together still so nice, so warm.

Married or unmaried, old or young there is nothing could prevent one not to be lovers. Young people who stop being lovers would grow old and I remember my old pigeon pair happily bathing together in a basin as young as ever.
